Cwm Eigiau and Bwlch Eryl Farchog Route C33
I last climbed this route 3 years ago when there was some snow about and a few weeks later in the dry, very enjoyable. However when climbing the route last Tuesday it was very different. The path in the mid section is very degraded especially the gully section. The heather in the upper section is loose and the slab very tricky. Our party included 3 M.L.s and the consensus was that it now borders on the dangerous!
Thank you for a wonderful series of books.
Kind regards Dick Calver (by email)

The residents of Rhyd-y-fen tell me that many walkers are parking their cars beyond the cattle grid of their drive, which is private property.
The intended parking lies in the pull-off by the gate (not in front of) on the opposite side of the road. If this is full please use the larger lay-by a couple of hundred yards east along the main road.
There’s a very useful website for the Vale of Ffestiniog. It includes an up-to-date accommodation list. There is an ever-increasing number of places offering good accommodation in the area. Go to; www.voff.co.uk

Vicky Kinglsey tells me that the re has been tree felling in the forest around Bryn Eglwys. This has made route-finding extremely difficult and rendered the tarrain quite boggy. Hopefully the difficulties will be temporary. I’ll keep you posted.
There is no longer parking at Cil-cychwyn Farm at Nantcol but you can park for a fee at Maes y Garnedd a few hundred yards further along the Nantcol road.
